Psalms with Purpose for Young People- Psalms 10:17-18

Here’s a practical example to help understand-

Psalms 10: 17-18

O Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble and oppressed;

You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear to hear,

To vindicate and obtain justice for the fatherless and the oppressed,

So that man who is of the earth will no longer terrify them.

Imagine a young girl named Annie who is being bullied by her classmates. She feels helpless and afraid, but she knows there must be someone greater than her that can help her.

One day, Annie is talking to her parents about what is happening. Her parents listen to her story and offer their support, and also suggest that she pray to God.

Annie begins to pray regularly by simply talking with God and explaining her problems and then thanking Him for listening.

In addition her parents suggest that Annie join a trusted Pastor’s youth group at their Church. The Pastor helps Annie to develop coping mechanisms and strategies for dealing with her bullies.

As a result of Annie’s prayers, her heart is strengthened and she is able to stand up to her bullies. She feels stronger and more confident. She knows that she can rely on God to help her, not only in her spirit, but by also surrounding her with loved ones and trusted friends.

This practical example illustrates the meaning of Proverbs 10:7-8. It shows that when we are humble and oppressed, God will hear us and strengthen our hearts. He will also incline His ear to hear our cries for justice.
